Château-vacant…

is an artistic collective based in Montreal. It’s composed by Lémuel Malicoutis, Yannick Calvez & Baptiste Alchourroun.
At Château-vacant we enjoy
Introducing our domain, meeting, adventuring ourselves, extending our action field. Searching, doing, suggesting. Manipulating things, elaborating artisanal objects, using tape.
We wish Château-vacant looks like a changing-space where we lend and borrow. You can visit, stay and leave whenever you feel like it.

Travis Collier…

If I imagine Travis when he was eight and a half years old, he would be the boy wearing a cowboy hat and a plaid shirt tucked into his shorts at a birthday party sucking on a neon green Freezie. When it’s time to hit the piñata, he would be patiently awaiting his turn to bat. When his turn does arrive, he would beat the shit out of that paper Mache pig. His shirt gets untucked while he wails on it. His hat falls of his head and he’s breathing heavily. Candy flies in all directions. The other kids at the party are all frantic cause they’ve never seen such ferocity. The adults at the party are all scratching their heads. And Travis will pull down his blindfold when done revealing fiery eyes. The Travis Collier of today still beats the shit out of piñatas. But now there’s more than just one. And he still hits with precision and wails on it. His shins get scarred in the process, there’s always graphite embedded in his nails, but his breathing is much deeper now. And we always watch in amazement at what he is doing, and some still scratch their heads. There’s no more blindfold to pull down. He’s fiery eyes are out in the open curiously casting gazes at everything.

Eli Horn…

as he spent his first three years of life tossing his worldly possessions over the side of a sailboat, Eli would like to spend his last decade doing the same: Imagine yourself, old but undefeated, setting feet down on port side with a handful of your dearest material objects; Upon ritualistic disposal of the final of these keepsakes, you find yourself alone with nothing, drifting. In the meantime, Eli spends his time cruising down many different creative avenues, usually on his bicycle. Accompaniment is always welcome.

Mathew Arthur…

likes Freestyle and Italo Disco, Japanese technical drawings, everything airbrush, corporate logos, cellphones and pizza. He works for molo design in East Vancouver during the day and nerds out at night. He is trying to build a body of work that explores a smaller-scale, visual approach to architectural design and is influenced by serial product design, manufacturing, wayfinding and architectural illustration.

Mark Bulford…

is a total computer nerd, but he doesn’t rely on programs to do it all for him. His most exciting work is the stuff that he does with his hands and he isn’t afraid to experiment (ask to see his foray into wood carving). But I think that what gets me most about his work is that I can see his humour breaking through. If there is anyone that can make me laugh, it’s him. And I see hints of that in his work.

Nathan Siemens…

is all grown up with a beautiful wife and a career and he lives in a smaller town than you. His town’s population could fit into BC Place Stadium nine times over, and bears leave piles of crap next to his backyard fire-pit.
He loves searching for cute kitten videos on YouTube and hates drawing with pencil crayons.

D. Calen Knauf…

is a designer based out of East Vancouver. Although well established in the graphic design realm, with clients such as Adidas, Stussy, Nike, Goodfoot, he is currently enrolled in Emily Carr University to further his design skills. Knauf is a very creative individual and unlike anyone else I have ever met. He is a very passionate person and always stays committed to the things he believes in. Knauf grew up in East Vancouver and will probably die in East Vancouver.
Calen doesn’t really just like anything… he either loves it or he hates it. Some things that he loves are: skateboarding, design, cereal, double features, rope swings, steak and tripe soup with rice noodles, shoes, red vine ropes, smiling, staying up late, Blair’s Death Rain, bahn mei, stale candy, rats, oysters, the city of Vancouver, straight razor shaves, jackets, music, smooth ground, hair cuts, smashing things, the cyber punk genre, Kingsway, waterproof cameras, hot sauce, the internet, Joe Colombo, helping friends, Letraset, cappuccinos, trying new things, granite, stationary, swimming, objects with purpose, white tee shirts, comedy shows, boats, collecting furniture, Halloween, yelling, painting, playing records, TV, climbing, hosting pictionary, camping, the outdoors, typography, computer monitors, Canada, spicy food, cliff jumping, making stuff, riding bikes, throwing knives, and being right. Some things that he hates are: crocs, rough ground, and fur protestors.
